In its first run, over 180 athletes turned out to compete in the Inaugural race to raise money for suicide prevention. All money raised benefited "Here Comes the Sun Suicide Prevention." The not-for-profit organization is dedicated to preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy.

"Here Comes the Sun" partnered with the Rocking Horse Ranch Resort to create the extensive course. Athletes partook in a .3-mile swim, 14-mile bike ride, and a 3-mile run. Over 100 spectators lined the course to cheer on the competitors. After the event, food, awards, and music left the competitors exhausted but fulfilled.

"Triathlon athletes are some of the most dedicated and hardest working people I know," said Lori Weinreich, President, Here Comes the Sun Suicide Prevention. "We like to think of ourselves the same way, work hard to make a difference in suicide prevention."

Temperatures were cool for the beginning of the race, but the sun came out and warmed up the competition. Athletes enjoyed the mixed-terrain course.

"This event was so successful because of the great people that showed up for friendly competition and with a caring heart," said Shelley Turk, triathlon athlete and owner of Rocking Horse Ranch.

But the event could not be supported without other sponsors including Bikeway of Poughkeepsie, and Catskill Mountain Multi Sport. Additional support came from local law enforcement including New York State Police, Ulster County Sheriff's Department, Town of Lloyd Police Department, Town of Platekill Police Department, Mobile Life, and Clintondale Fire Rescue. The race was under the direction of Dan Honig of New York Triathlon.
