We stayed at the ranch for 5 nights in July, over my son's 8th birthday. My husband (a Disney fanatic) was nervous about trying something new, but I convinced him to give it a try. I am so glad I did!
My kids (age 6 and 8) LOVED every second they were there. The rooms were clean and the bunk beds were a big hit. There were activities all the time that we all had fun with like a kid's "horse race", pool relay races, kayak races, cannonball contests, volleyball, etc. The BB Gun and Archery range was always staffed with a knowledgable person who took his time to teach the kids how to shoot. The wranglers were friendly and good with matching people to horses. The horses were clean and happy. There was even a baby horse, just a week old named Root Beer, who we got to meet during an evening barn tour!!
The ranch had nice tennis courts, bocce ball, wall ball, horseshoes, basketball, etc with really well cared for equipment. Kayaks were kid friendly. Fishing poles with release friendly hooks and bread to bait made for hours of fun for all of us. The banana boat rides were exciting, and my son even got some waterskiing lessons.
After 8 and before the evening show my family would hit the fun barn and play ping pong, climb the rock treadmill, and play in the air cannon area. The evening shows were great for kids and adults. There was a bar for us, and the kids were called on stage numerous times during different shows to assist. Plenty of line dances for fun. Everyone was in bed by 10:30, completely exhausted. One night we went out to see the singing cowboy by the bonfire. What a great guy! Really memorable.
The food was kid friendly and plentiful, with lots of choices. To tell the truth, it was better than most cruise lines serve. The wait staff was a little lacking, but slow coffee a few mornings doesn't both me much.

My wife, three kids ( 6, 10 & 12) stayed at the Rocking Horse Ranch Resort at Highland, New York for three nights/four days (Sunday to Wednesday). Our vacation will be a memorable one, my kids had the best time ever at the resort, we had an awesome vacation; the food, programs, service, the friendly staff and the outstanding landscaping made our stay a memorable one, everything was outstanding and the atmosphere was so relaxing and enjoyable which will encourage us to go back again. There's no way we could put into words how much we loved Rocking Horse Ranch. We haven't been away as a family in years because of money constraints, and almost cancelled this one. Boy are we glad we didn't! Worth every penny and more. We didn't want to leave. Boy did we have the vacation blues when we got home!
We chose the Ranch because of the close proximity and we wanted a ranch with horses. Also the pools were cool! Our 22 month old never had so much fun!
I just returned home from The Rocking Horse Ranch.WHAT A WONDERFUL TIME WE HAD! I am already booking another trip with in the next two months! This has been one of the best vacations we have had to date. We spent Monday-Friday in the Oklahoma building. The room was perfect for myself, my best friend and all four of our kids. The room was so clean! Every morning we got up and took a wonderful horse back ride through the beautiful property of the Rocking Horse Ranch. After showering we were off to breakfast, a SUPER buffet !!
After breakfast the kids were off again enjoying all the activities The Rocking Horse Ranch offers, the kids were busy all day!! We all were! After dinner we were ready for bed and were looking forward to another gorgeous day at such a beautiful place! Another plus was the Massage & Facial center!!! After horse back riding and using muscles I didn't even know I had, getting a massage was the perfect end to a perfect vacation!! Everything from the room to the staff to the food was perfect! I have already recommenced The Rocking Horse Ranch to everybody I know. Thank you for such a wonderful vacation!!! We will see you again very soon!!!!
I want to share what a wonderful vacation we had (April 24, 2010) at the ranch.
First let me explain, Every year for Christmas we give our children a trip; a memory of being with family doing something together. There are 26 of us, 8 adults and 16 grandchildren, ages 1 to 18. We have vacationed at Bush Gardens, Williamsburg, Hershey Park, Great Wolf Lodge, and Cedar Park.
They were all great trips but Rocking Horse Ranch was the best of the best. The staff was just wonderful, the dining was excellent, the many many activities, the whole package was more than we ever expected. There's not one thing that I could say was missing. The horse back riding was so fun, the camp fire, the game rooms, there was something for every age, from morning to night. Our only mistake was we didn't stay longer!! I also have to say how clean,everything was, from the room to the stables. Rocking Horse Ranch is a fabulous place and we will be back !!!!

I took my children on a long weekend trip to Rocking Horse Ranch in Highland, New York, just 90 minutes from New York City. Rocking Horse Ranch is an all inclusive dude ranch. I was very impressed, We stayed in the main hotel which made it easy for my children to have the freedom to go where they wanted. My children had the best time and so did I.
The activities were endless from morning until night, at the end of the day my children were so tired they went right to sleep. The grounds are beautiful, surrounded by mountains, and the rooms were spacious and clean.
The main activity to do at the ranch of course is horseback riding! It is a dude ranch after all! They have three levels for your horseback riding experience, beginners, mid level and expert! Of course I was a beginner, I don't know if I'll ever do it again but at least I can say I tried. My older son absolutely loved it and was mid level by the time we left. The beginner trail had many helpers to make sure everyone stayed safe and the horses behaved. At the end of the day you can stand on the side of the ranch and watch all the horses go back to their homes. They actually stop traffic so that the horses can cross the street. The kids loved this part everyday it was like watching a parade with only horses.
Some of the other outdoor activities are horse drawn carriage rides, paddle boats, fishing, toasting marshmallows by the bon fire while a cowboy sings. Outdoor sports activities includes baseball, tennis, basketball, shuffleboard, horseshoes, mini golf, and wall climbing. Their is no need to bring any sports equipment the ranch has a full supply of everything you need.
We have been going to the Rocking Horse Ranch for over twenty years and have never had a bad experience. They keep growing and expanding for the better. The horses are friendly and well cared for. My children look forward to our annual visits. Everyone is very friendly to each age group. The food is delicious and abundent!!! The fun barn is great for every age group and it includes the moving rock wall, moon bounce, volleyball, ping pong and 2 story ball pit. There is never a moment to rest with all of the activities. I hope you enjoy the Ranch as much as we do.
My family and I just returned from a fantastic weekend at Rocking Horse Ranch. This all-inclusive dude ranch is nestled on a picturesque 500 acres in Highland, New York. Rocking Horse Ranch is a full scale year round resort which is an ideal family getaway.
From the start our daughters, 3 and 8, were elated to find bunk beds in the newly decorated guestrooms. Although with the endless activities and events awaiting us, we headed out to explore the ranch. We switched into weekend warrior mode and preceded to try every activity the ranch had to offer. We went rock climbing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, hay-riding, archery, tennis, mini-golf, paddle-boating and did I mention horseback riding. A favorite place for my girls was the Fun Barn with it's bouncy house, two-story ball pit, volleyball and ping-pong. We did our best but we will have to go back to the ranch, because we only touched on the multitude of activities they offer.
During our stay we enjoyed cool crisp autumn weather, which was prefect for horseback riding through the woods where the leaves were just beginning to change. The wranglers were patient and friendly, and the horses are well cared for. Our 3-year-old was happy to visit the zebras, cows and camel, and fed the ponies, but was not yet ready to go for a ride. Great Resort. Been there with my family. Lots of activities. The kids can't wait until the new indoor water park is open in October.
This is the first time I have ever been inspired to write a review. I live only minutes away from the ranch and have always wondered how they always managed to look so busy. We decided to take our grandchildren there because of their love of horses. There were many beautiful horses and so much more. There is no way you can do everything they offer in just a weekend, but we sure tried. We thought the cost was on the high side, but after experiencing all they have to offer, it is worth all that and more. The staff is so friendly and helpful, they go beyond what could be expected. There is something for everyone, and I even had a massage. The food is exceptional as is the entertainment. If you can round up the money, be sure to try RHR. You won't be dissapointed!
My Family and I can't wait to come back. We had a splendid time. Well worth every penny!

According to the Grandchildren, the best vacation ever
We took our grandchildren to the Rocking Horse Ranch. We had been there and thought they would enjoy it. It was wonderful! The room was terrific and the bunk beds were a hit! The children enjoyed the playground, the pool, the horseback riding (twice each day), the freedom, and the great meals. We enjoyed the relaxed environment, the food, and the bar area where we could watch the children in the indoor pool. We felt it was a safe place for the family. It is a great destination.
My teen daughter and I stayed here over spring break and we had a blast. There was plenty for both of us to do - both together and separately. There was a teen mixer every night with Darius - who the kids really seemed to love. The staff is very friendly and is willing to go the extra mile. The food was fantastic - not at all what you'd expect from a dude ranch. The rooms were newly redecorated and fabulous - you really felt like you were staying at a dude ranch! Of course the horses were the main attraction - and the staff there really know what they are doing too. The pool area was clean and the kids loved hanging out there. There's a sauna downstairs (one for women and one for men). Even hanging out in the lobby area was nice! There's WiFi in the main building so I saw a couple of laptops in use in the lobby too!
Fun Place
My daughter's girl scout troop planned a trip to Rocking Horse Ranch and we had a great time. We were pleased with everything the price included, food, skiing, equipment, horseback trail ride, a horse drawn sleigh ride, swimming, and even a rock wall and other fun stuff in the fun barn! There was a charge for some photos we purchased, and if you did the arts and crafts activity there was a charge for that, but since we didn't do it, I don't know the fee. The girls liked the ability to get Hot chocolate (or coffee or tea) in the lobby whenever they wanted, and it was a great way to warm up! Most of the employees were very fun and friendly - the ski instructors were very helpful - and the snow tube attendants were entertaining and made each tube ride fun! We hope we get the opportunity to return with the whole family!
Much More Than We expected
This was our first visit with our daughter's school. She loves to ride horses and that pretty much was the extent of our expectations for the weekend. What a pleasant surprise to find that we could ride several times a day on beautiful trails and still partake in all sorts of other activities. Swimming, snow tubing, the Wii room, live entertainment, sleigh rides, skiing, marshmallow roasts, even ice cream parties!! And of course relaxing at the huge lobby fireplace when the mood strikes. I found the rooms to be neat as a pin and the whole facility spotless. I would (and have) definitely recommend Rocking Horse to friends and family. I am so glad we went!
Revitalized Wonderful Active Resort With Something for Everyone
We just returned from a mid-week, 3-day stay at the ranch. We have been there before but it was exceptional this time. They have renovated the rooms and have put two queen beds and a set of bunk beds in the larger rooms which are really "large". Lots of room to spread out. They are decorated in perfect harmony with a "horse ranch" theme and very comfortable. The riding was wonderful, as always. There was something special about the newly decorated areas and I couldn't put my finger on it, but it was felt everywhere from the way the staff handled themselves and the courtesy and "real" caring that everyone exuded during the day. There were absolutely no negative vibes anywhere. If you've ever wanted to try a ranch-style vacation, this is the place. If you are not into riding, there is skiing, tubing and a schedule of activities throughout the day. You won't be bored! Great Job Guys!!!
We had a fabulous time spending Christmas at the ranch! My wife and I have been coming to the ranch for over 25 years. We now have 3 kids and they love the ranch! It's truly a place where you feel like family. The people you meet, the staff, and the memories you make are wonderful! No matter where we go, the Ranch is, by far, our favorite resort. For two years March 2006 and March 2007 we stayed at the Rocking Horse Ranch with our friend Marquette Palmer, we had a great weekend trip each time. We loved the accommodations, the activities, the food, the wine and cheese parties, the line dancing with Flo. And just time to retreat to our room to rest until it was time for dinner. Your place was like home clean, smoke-free. We even appreciated the 24 hr. coffee, coco and cakes. And your staff was great. To be there with our family and friends enjoying a fun weekend, and meeting other families who are also enjoying a fun weekend is a wonderful experience. Looking forward to coming back in the future to take advantage of your upgrades. Happy 50th Anniversary.
My son Michael and I just spent yet another fantastic week at RHR. This was our 5th year in a row there and once again, made our reservations for next year already. Everyone at the Ranch, the entire Staff, is so nice and friendly. The facilities, food, horses - all top notch. We look forward to coming back every year. My Son and I enjoy the riding the most. Scott and his crew do an absolutely wonderful job with the horses. Kudos to them all for a job VERY well done !
I'm attaching a picture of my Son as he's "grown up" at RHR over the last 5 years. I used the sign in the background to gauge his height. He is 15 now. (somehow I missed a photo of him in 2005). It continues to be one of the best weeks we spend together.

My family of five just completed a week long stay at the resort. I did not go into it with very high expectations and was glad to have the opportunity to do some horseback riding but really didn't expect the extraordinary experience that is offered by your resort. The wranglers did an outstanding job of guiding the enthusiastic and of gently coaxing the ignorant allowing everyone to get the most of a ride with so many divergent experience levels. My hat's off in gratitude to Billie, Deb and Gino who really made the trip for me. The rest of my family could share their favorites of water skiing for the first time, mastering the rock climbing wall, or winning a ping pong tournament, but it was the world of riding your wranglers and your outstanding operation opened up to me that will stand out in my mind for a long time to come. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Rocking Horse Ranch. The food was wonderful, accommodations great, and we especially enjoyed the many activities. We just spent a week at the ranch and it was the most relaxing and memorable vacation we have ever been on. The staff was great with the kids and very helpful. We spent the week there with family that has been going for over ten years. Many places claim to be all inclusive then you discover various "hidden" activity fees. The Rocking Horse Ranch is truly all inclusive!
We've taken the kids on several vacations and this was the only one where true friendships were formed.
My daughter said "I had the time of my life there, I've made the best of friends there".
This was the first time our kids were in tears while saying goodbye to new friends on vacation.
They can't wait to return again.We will definitely be returning again next year.

I've been to the ranch ever since I was one and all I have to say is all compliments. I like how you can choose what to eat and that there are so many activities. I like how you got the massage and facial room for the grown-ups. The kids get a lot of activities to do and the grown-ups don't have to go with them because they have a daycare! The daycare councilors are very nice. I must say so myself because I am a kid! And when we're ready to settle down you guys have great magic shows and comedy shows for the grown-ups. The changes you made to the rooms made the ranch even better!!! Don't get me started on the horses, they are amazing!!!! All I can say is great job RHR!

Thanks so much for the wonderful weekend. Only three of our six children and their families were able to come with us this weekend, but everyone had such a good time. One grandchild even said he wanted to live there. The food was wonderful and the staff always helpful. We were looking for a place halfway between all of us and we found this on the web, so glad we did.
We have been to RHR 5-6 times over the years, and it just keeps getting better and better. We were there most recently over Memorial Day weekend and it was GREAT. We were there with 2 other families ranging in age from 10-61 and there was something for everyone. Thanks for a wonderful weekend! We all had a wonderful time. There was something for everyone- from swimming pools to the banana boat to cocktail parties to fireworks, not to mention horseback riding. Everyone of ALL ages had a very good experience.
The entertainment is "Great", Stephanie does a wonderful job. The food is incredible and there are plenty of activities for all ages, and the grounds are beautiful. The best part of our vacation is watching the "horses" cross the road at the end of the day.
The Turk Family should be very proud of their staff, they are the reason we keep coming back to the RHR.
This year we booked the ranch for vacation - it will be my 3rd time and my husband's 1st. We were hesitating about going when we checked out the price. Now we have to pay for two instead of just paying for myself and having a friend pay her own way. However, we found that once we added up the money we spent last year with our vacation to Florida (between airfare, hotel, car rental and spending money) it was a lot more expensive. When you go to Rocking Horse Ranch everything is paid for such as your room, meals and all the activities.
